Idea Base: A slightly demonic machine with rending capabilities


One day while browsing the R667 beastiary, I found this lil guy, who looked really, REALLY neat. Except, unlike practically every other monster in R667, he lacked rotations, so all you got was a forward facing sprite. Which sadly doomed it to obscurity, as it looked severely out of place if you used it. So, after about a week of constant fiddling, I've managed to produce a full set of rotations for the lil guy! Hope you enjoy using him!

Oh, and I changed a few minor things in the decorate, such as removing the "bright" except when its firing, and adding 2 A_facetargets since its got rotations.

Looks pretty good. One thing I noted is that the distance between the cannons appears to become a bit too close together in the 2/4 frames compared to the 1/5 frames (even with perspective taken into account); is that something you can tweak? Also, D4 and D6 are swapped, so it's facing the wrong way for each frame. Lastly, since the rotation sprites are symmetrical, you don't need to use 8 rotation frames--you can use 5 frames, and have each of the angles duplicated (A2A8, A3A7, A4A6, etc.).

Overall, though, this is nice, and a much-needed improvement over the original! That said, did you by any chance run this by CodenniumRed to see if he'd have any objections to an update? Even though I consider it an improvement, it is still technically making some changes, so you ought to contact the original author just to make sure he's OK with the update.

From what I can tell (after a quick google search), CodenniumRed seems to have stopped all activity about 3 or so years ago, so I'm not.sure I can get in contact with them anymore. I went ahead with this anyway since it's such a huge omission compared to everything else, to the point of it probably never going to be used in anything.

I'll see about the rest in the morning tho, it's getting awfully late as it is. Tho, perspective was always something I've struggled with, but I'll see what I can do.

CodenniumRed is known as ShadesMaster, here and on the ZDoom forums. His last log-in on the ZDoom forums was in end of May .

Right, so I spread the cannons out a bit more, did the thing that let the engine mirror sprites since they are actually symmetrical, and edited to credits to show Shadesmaster as the creator of the original concept. If I've missed anything, lemme know.

And with that, I think that's everything, soooo here's the download!

Edit: WOOPS, forgot to make the sprites paletted pngs. It's all good now tho!
