I like it, but I suggest adding a muzzleflash. Also were the projectiles converted to the Doom palette, or were they always like that? Because truecolor sprites are totally allowed.

The original weapon did not have much of a flash and I thought at first it might cover too much screen already with the projectile trail, but muzzleflash added :)

I started out with truecolors, but later changed it to Doom palletted PNGs. This mostly affected the blues, going from brighter to darker hues. But since it kinda matches the original this way, I kept it.

Due to how the secondary shot works, you can actually use that projectile as a shield against hitscan enemies, and if other projectiles clash with it, they can deflect the big energy ball. If you could make projectiles and bullets go through it, except for the energy bolt, that would be great.

Added SPECTRAL flag to both the beam and the ball - seems to have done the trick. :) Download link updated.
