More melodious than I expected, I'll have to test them in a map instead of just listening to the sound in SLADE, but they seem great.

Most of the elements that make up these sounds as a whole are melodic phrases that were recorded from a variety of instruments. Those phrases were then resynthesized and multi-tracked with other sounds to create beautiful textures, and most of the phrases were recorded in the major or minor scale, which probably accounts for the more "melodious" timbre you're talking about.
