The HUD (idle) sprite is a bit rough still, but the pickup (spawn) sprite is kinda cool. Working some of that purple lighting into the HUD sprite during its ready frames (not just when it fires) would be a good idea, I think. I like the purple projectiles, though they turn blue when they impact (since they use the standard plasma death sprites), and don't leave a decal. Perhaps most importantly, the gun doesn't actually use any ammo. That definitely needs to be fixed.

Also, there's like 3 different Pulse Rifles just on our repo alone, so picking a more unique name might be a good idea too. (Plasma Blaster? Plasma Repeater? Pulse Repeater? Just throwing a couple out there.)

Yea i realized there were like 3 different pulse rifles straight after i uploaded this, Plasma Repeater sounds good, ill update that as soon as i can :D , and as for the ammo issue, i must have missed that when i made the wad.. this was a weapon i had merged with other weapons in one decorate file (Soo disorganized), so i quickly whipped up this wad last night to upload on here rather than the whole mod im working on, ill spend some more time on it a bit later.

As for the edges and details, its still a work in progress, i just found my wacom tablet this morning, so ill have more control and fun fixing it up

I intend on making custom decals for it too, i just used the plasma one for now.. i was just too eager to get it uploaded, being my first and all.

Nothing new atm, I've been busy with other stuff lately and haven't really found the time for this, but I'll get back on to it soon , I promise :)

I do believe I did those custom decals for it though,if you haven't already grabbed the latest version since your last post.

You know what else I think the first-person sprites need? A bit of perspective distortion. The way it is now, it goes up, but it doesn't really narrow much, so the sense of perspective isn't quite there. That's what I think.

Yup, I agree.. I'll also remove the bottom half of the hud sprite in both the preview and the actual sprite, as it doesn't really fit well in game and it's not really needed.. It might also reduce the file size as well... This weapon definitely needs some work I'll admit.. It'll be my next project to complete before a new submission (which will also be another plasma weapon... Maybe something hitscan rather than projectile this time... But that's an off topic spoiler so I'll leave it at that ;)).

Update:

Ive decide to redo this weapon from scratch... My only problem is the pallet, Id need to change a few colours around to be able to use the doom pallet. Here's a copy of the new "re-imagining" of the plasma repeater:

Its in true colour but rules state it needs to be palleted to be submitted... so I'm not updating op with this until I know where to go with it.

The rules about palette don't mean that the submission has to conform to any specific game's palette; only that the sprites need to be converted to A palette. A custom palette is acceptable. I've already mentioned as such on the shoutbox, but ZDoom will auto-convert colors outside of the Doom palette at run-time to colors within the Doom palette (same with Heretic/Hexen and their respective palettes), and GZDoom has no palette limitations. Obviously, if you can get it to look as good as possible using Doom's limited blues and purples, that's preferable; but, it's understandable if you can't.

Or, you can try a route like the CryoBow, which actually supplies a custom palette for the game that uses the particular shades it needs to look correct in regular ZDoom. I don't necessarily condone or condemn this method, nor do I know how to create a custom palette. :P

I don't think bundling a custom PLAYPAL is a good idea, since its effect is global. You can't tell ZDoom to use a palette on sprite X and Y only.
