The idea seems simple enough but nice. My 2 biggest problems with it as is now is:
1. the sounds are rather lackluster (almost silent and dull), it needs a better firing sound at least.
2. the pickup sprite is rather unpleasant to look at, it could use a cleanup.
3. (optional), few extra firing frames would give it that smooth edge that people like, but not necessary.
otherwise this could be a decent weapon addition.

I got the sounds from the game rip, they were very quiet to begin with, around -25 dB, so I had to amplify them a lot to even get them to this level, but I can probably recreate them from scratch, when I have time. I dont really want to stray from the originals though
I had to lower the resolution of the pickup because it was way to big to fit in the game, I'll see what I can do to smooth off the edges
As for the animation, there was only 2 frames, but what I can do is emulate some recoil in photoshop to smooth it out a bit, I'll work on it later

Out of curiosity, what did the original, untouched pickup look like? There's no hard-and-fast rule that says that the weapon pickup has to be the same resolution as it appears in-game; as long as it's reasonably in the ballpark, you can use Scale to size it appropriately.

Lowering the resolution/scaling it to size is basically the same thing, the original sprite didnt look much different at all, were not losing any details in the sprite by doing so, my adjustments wernt much. if you want to see the original sprites i can link you to the game rip, but to be honest, in my opinion the pickup sprite looks nothing like the hud weapon anyway, but for the sake of sticking with how it was in quiver.
Other than smoothing off the edges a bit, i dont really see a point in doing any work in the middle... they really went much to look at in the original game anyway, this isnt to me about making better versions of what was originally in something else, its about bringing them into doom with minimal changes to the original product (if that makes sense at all :p). Although that been said, i respect the feedback
When i have time though, ill do the rest of the weapons from quiver... perhaps ill start on a quiver total conversion or something later on down the track.... perhaps...

I was just curious because I saw in a previous post that you said "I had to lower the resolution of the pickup because it was way to big to fit in the game", and I was wondering exactly how big that was. If you don't think you're losing much detail by lowering the resolution of the sprite, then that's an OK way to go.

This seems like a solid weapon to me. I have to agree that the pickup sprite looks a bit off compared to the hud sprite. I understand wanting to preserve the sprite from the source, but there seems to be a lot more red in the pickup sprite than there needs to be. Any other thoughts?

Hey, thanks for the feedback, its good to see some of the admins are coming back since the big update.
I can desaturate the red on the pickup sprite a little bit, but I think Ill do a rescale from the source again first to see if I can preserve more detail. I'm going to take a few screenshots of the weapon in quiver itself later so you can see what it looks like in the original game and my conversion in zdoom for comparison after Ive made a few changes, before I upload an update for it... I may also keep my word on a new firing sound from scratch as I think I could recreate it with better quality.
Edit: Here are the screenshots of the new rescaled sprites... Let me know which of the rescaled ones you like and it will be in the next update when Ive done the sound.
Quiver in game screenshot
In ZDoom Without Rescaling
Resampled with bicubic (sharpest)
Resampled with nearest neighbour
Also, keep in mind that quiver ran in a resolution of 800x600 but doom was only 320x200... so naturally the pickup sprite is going to look more detailed in Quiver as opposed to Doom.... But I can utilize the HI_START and HI_END markers to bring back the original source sprite and let zdoom do the scaling, if I were to get a special exception for using a "high res" sprite in this submission... As this would be in the "Other" category and not trying to stay within the doom style.

Update:
-New sounds
-Re-Re-scaled pickup sprite
-Added extra credits

Warning: Spoiler!
Im planning on doing the rest of the weapons from quiver... there most likely going to be submitted here, so Im wondering weather I should either have them individually wrapped and submitted one at a time OR merged together in the one package as a "set" and uploaded when there all done, being that there all from the same game?

Hmm, I'm still not convinced with all the red on the outside of the pickup sprite. Mostly because the first person view of the gun doesn't have much red on it at all.
If you're going to submit other weapons, I'd suggest submitting them separately so it's a bit easier to keep track of here.
