Looks pretty good to me, though in my eyes, I'm not sure that I would prefer it strongly over what the current one looks like in software mode--and the current version looks a lot better in hardware mode due it its custom palette. But it may be possible to come up with a custom-paletted version that looks better in software mode than the current one does. (Given how limited the range of pinks in Doom is, I'd really prefer to go with a custom-paletted version if at all possible.)Blue Shadow wrote: (Posting this again, because for some reason, the post had decided to vanish!)
What do people think about this software-friendly-pink marker attempt?
Of course, there's always PALVERS for stuff like this, so worst-case scenario, maybe both can go in! EDIT: And I'm kind of leaning towards that since getting a custom-paletted version that palettizes as well as this one looks is a steep challenge.
@Infirnex: Ok, I get what you mean now. Yeah, I did that deliberately, but I can easily tone down the contrast and see if it's more agreeable that way. I'll have a new version up shortly.
EDIT: How's this? I prefer the old one personally, though I think this one looks OK enough without looking too much like either the white or black versions.

Yes, PALVERS would be the way to go with this. You can apply that to the yellow one, too, if you prefer to have the old one as well as the new "gold" (old one for hardware and the new gold/yellow for software).MagicWazard wrote: Of course, there's always PALVERS for stuff like this, so worst-case scenario, maybe both can go in! I'm actually leaning towards just including the current yellow one now; it's kind of grown on me, and I think it's a bit more appropriate of a hue than the old one was. I think I will definitely do the PALVERS approach for the pink one, though. I'm going to wait to update until I get a few opinions on the alternate lower-contrast silver that Infirnex suggested.Blue Shadow wrote: Yes, PALVERS would be the way to go with this. EDIT: I added in your pink skull patch and implemented a PALVERS lump to manage them. I added you to the credits as well.

EDIT: How's this for a non-gradient approach? I went a bit lighter than the frame, but not as aggressively as the white version. I also inverted the dark and light portions so it's subconsciously different than the others.
If you guys are willing to entertain a gradient version, what did you guys think of the alternate version I posted a ways back with the lower-contrast gradient?
EDIT 2: Here's a version that's slightly darker than the frame. What do you think?
Personally, if I had the choice, I'd go with the gradient version for the reasons I specified before (easier to read vs. white and black; matches SHAWN and SILVER textures).

Out of the two, I very much prefer this one.MagicWazard wrote: EDIT 2: Here's a version that's slightly darker than the frame. What do you think?
I tried them in game (software renderer), and this one really looked like gray. The lighter version, to me, looked like it can be considered as white if you haven't seen the actual white markers beforehand.
